Do all prerequisites have to be taken before I can enroll in the Health Systems Administration program?

All prerequisites/admission requirements must be taken before you can be enrolled in the program. Prerequisite courses are located under the Admissions tab.

Is there a certain amount of time I have to wait before I can enroll in the program after graduating with an associate's degree in respiratory, radiology, nursing, physical therapy assistant, basic emergency medical technician or any other allied health profession?

There is no waiting period to enroll. However, you would have to submit proof of your licensure, certification, or registration before enrolling in the Track I program.

Can I receive financial aid while enrolled in the program? Are scholarships and/or financial aid available?

Financial aid is available for all eligible applicants. For information regarding financial aid and scholarships, contact Student Financial Services. Out-of-state online health systems administration students will not be charged the out-of-state tuition rates. Out-of-state students in the online health systems administration program will be charge the in-state resident fee.   

Is there a minimum amount of hours required per semester?

The program is designed for, but not limited to, part-time, non-traditional students. Therefore, there is not a minimum amount of hours required per semester; however, students should develop a plan of study with their advisor at the start of the degree program. However, students are expected to maintain continuous enrollment each semester after admission.  

I am not that familiar with computers. Is there training available to orientate me on how to navigate the online program?

We do provide online instructions to applicants who are not familiar with the Canvas instruction delivery software. We also enroll all students in a class we call "Student Success Tool Manual" that has tips that will assist you in your role as an online student. Faculty and staff will be available to answer any questions or concerns you may have on how to navigate Canvas or other educational software programs.

What is the required minimum GPA for admission?

To be eligible for admission to the program, applicants must have a GPA of 2.0 or higher on a scale of 4.0.

May I complete this program while living outside of Mississippi?

Students may complete this program while living outside of Mississippi. Out-of-state online students may take advantage of the in-state tuition rate that is allowed for out-of-state students. 

Do I need to have a previous degree or background in a health-related field to apply?

No, applicants do not need to have a background in a health related field to apply. Applicants without a clinical or health-related background will be considered for admission to the Health Care Operation Track (20 courses) within the Health Systems Administration Program.  

Is an interview required for admission?

Based on predetermined criteria, select applicants will be invited for a face-to-face or phone admission interview.  

How long will it take to complete the program?

Applicants admitted to the Health Care Practitioner Track are required to complete 10 courses within the curriculum. Applicants admitted to the Health Care Operation Track are required to complete 20 courses within the curriculum. The Health Systems Administration program is designed for, but not limited to, part-time, non-traditional students. Therefore, there is not a minimum amount of hours required per semester; however, students should develop a plan of study with their advisor at the start of the degree program.  

How are courses offered face-to-face or online?

All courses are offered in an asynchronous online design.

How will I know if I qualify for the Health Care Operation track program (Track II) or the Health Care Practitioner track program (Track I)?

The admission committee will review application and will notify the applicant of the appropriate track.
